Add everyone in the household. The order you list them becomes the rotation order — the same sequence is used for every rotating chore. Drag to reorder anytime.
Each person picks themselves in Settings → Your Profile. This tells the app who's using each device so My Chores only shows your assignments.
Tap + in the Chores tab. Choose permanent (always one person) or rotating (everyone takes turns). Pick a frequency — daily, weekly, every two weeks, every four weeks, or monthly.

The rotation order is set once in the People tab — it's the order family members appear in that list. Every rotating chore uses the same sequence. So if the order is Alice → Bob → Carol, then every chore that rotates follows Alice → Bob → Carol, just starting at different people per chore.
When it's time for a chore to roll over (a Monday for weekly chores, the 1st for monthly, etc.), it hands off to the next person in the rotation. No manual intervention needed.
Permanent — the chore always belongs to one person. It shows up in their My Chores list all the time. If you want to reassign it, open the chore and change the person. Great for things like "Tim takes out the bins."
Rotating — the chore cycles through the household on a schedule. Each person gets it for one rotation period (a week, a month, etc.), then it moves to the next person. Great for dishes, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms.
Right now, Rostre syncs automatically across all devices signed into the same iCloud account. If everyone in your household shares an iCloud account, everything works automatically.
Cross-account sync — where family members on different iCloud accounts share the same chore list — is planned for a future update.
No. Marking is purely informational — it adds a record to the history log but has no effect on the schedule or rotation. The chore will hand off to the next person at the normal rollover time whether or not it was marked done.
Think of it as a way to build a record of what got done and when, not as a required step.
Yes. Open the chore, go to the Assignment section, and tap the Current picker. Selecting a different person re-anchors the rotation to that person starting today. Future assignments are recalculated from there.
Rostre has a household-wide Default Schedule set in Settings. New rotating chores inherit it automatically so you don't have to configure each one individually. You can override the schedule per chore by turning off "Use Default Schedule" inside the chore's detail view.
Yes. Rostre runs natively on both iPhone and iPad. On iPhone, the app is portrait-only. On iPad, all orientations are supported including landscape and Split View.
Yes. You can say "Mark dishes done in Rostre," "Skip vacuuming in Rostre," or "What chores do I have today in Rostre." All three are also available as actions in the Shortcuts app for automation.
